Brigid, which means "Fiery Arrow" or "Bright Arrow", is a Celtic three-fold goddess. Known by many names, Brigid's three aspects are Fire of Inspiration as patroness of poetry, Fire of the Hearth, as patroness of healing and fertility, and Fire of the Forge, as patroness of smithcraft and martial arts. She is mother to the craftsmen.
Goddess of the Sacred Flame of Kildare and often is considered to be the White Maiden aspect of the Triple Goddess. She was Christianized as the "foster-mother" of Jesus Christ, and called St. Brigit, the daughter of the Druid Dougal the Brown. Brighid's festival is Imbolc, celebrated on or around February 1 when she ushers Spring to the land after The Cailleach's Winter reign, when Brigid's snake comes out of its mound in which it hibernates and its behavior is said to determine the length of the remaining Winter. It is the basis for the American Groundhog Day.
This is the sixth of a six piece portfolio for Independent Study in Digital Drawing, with piece examining a uniquely feminine trait as represented by a goddess. Brigid represents creativity and inspiration.
How funny is it that the patron saint of my school happens to be St. Brigid its mandatory to study her in school so its interesting to hear the other religious views on her really good drawing btw exactly how i would imagine her

I love how you incorporated the knot into the moon, and her face is so motherly it's unreal!

If theatre were my religion, the lightboard would be my altar, a roll of tape and a crescent wrench my tools, and a blue wash the light under which all would be consecrated.
Lovely - I like the symmetry and sense of intimacy with the way she is framed by the grove behind her and the two trees. Wonderful lighting effects too on the page and her face.
I've actually been to her shrine in Ireland and I have to say that looking at this and then remembering my experience there... you've captured and managed to express the feeling of the place. I'm extremely impressed and I absolutely love this image. Thank you for bringing back to the singularly most peaceful moment ever of my life.

Often to be found grubbing around in hedgerows whilst wearing an odd hat of elderflowers...
