Guinevere -- derived from the Welsh-Gaelic for "white fairy" or "white ghost", King Arthur's queen consort from the Arthurian Legend, lover of Lancelot and later forced into a convent.

I've always thought Guinevere got the worst end of all the nonsense in the Arthurian legends. She was such a wonderful, independent woman, a Queen of the Summer Country in her own right and then men come along and kidnap her and claim her and all manner of other nonsense. And why is it so awful that she had an affair with Lancelot (who was dashing and lovely anyway)? Do you know who Arthur had an affair with? His sister. So there.

To me she seemed more the elusive white fairy, something more tied to nature and the etherial, trapped for the time being, but ultimately untamable and timeless.

Guinevere by *tattereddreams is how I would imagine Guinevere to have appeared before her marriage to Arthur. Sweet, innocent, and unsuspecting of her future which would be torn between the man she married and the one she truly loved. A beautiful tribute to her legend. Just beautiful and you are right she does get the crappy end of the stick but technically she never had an affair with Lancelot at least to them it wasn't considered an affair she was a strong woman in her own right and from the research I had done some years ago as such she could take whomever she desired to her bed but with the predominance of priests changing the old legends to better suit their own religion she was turned into some harlot which she never was, I remember before I did my research I used to hate Guinevere because I felt she betrayed Arthur and then after I felt so bad because this woman did not deserve what they did to her. As for Arthur sleeping with his sister it always felt a little Egyptian dynasty to me.

and while i believe you should be faithful to your spouse, back in the old days you married to improve your status not because you loved someone, the trick was to not get caught.

King Arthur had sex with Morgan Le Fay before he married Guinevere.

Arthur was actually deceived by Le Fay into thinking he was sleeping with his wife, Guinevere. And her adulterous affair with Lancelot brought death and misery to Camelot and the kingdom, so it was pretty awful and she deserved whatever she got.

If you wanna get REALLY technical, it wasn't with Morgan le Fay but with Arthur's OTHER half-sister, Queen Morgause of Orkney. She and Morgan often get combined into a gestalt character in modern interpretations. And while, yes, Guinevere's affair was the beginning of the end for Camelot, really it was doomed from the beginning because of how Arthur was born. Morgause deliberately got pregnant from her half-brother to sire Mordred because she wanted revenge for Uther Pendragon's rape of her mother. So, yeah, Guinevere kind of was asking for it with her affair, but it's not like her role in Camelot's destruction was that big. The whole thing was bound for death and misery right from the start because of Uther.

I absolutely adore the colouration of her skin and the dress.. I love when artists put so much colour into white instead of making it stark :D

Half-sister. Morgan Le Fay was Arthur's half-sister... not that I'm an expert on this or anything.
